Here at Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council, there’s no shortage of plans in the pipeline: large-scale housing projects, leisure park, land transactions – and that’s just the start. They’re all part of our ambitious drive for growth, which is backed by solid resources. There’s an exciting future ahead – which means a unique role for you.

As a Principal Solicitor specialising in one of the above areas of law, you’ll enjoy scope and variety that’s unusual in our sector. You’ll be part of our team helping to influence and drive forward the council’s ambitious agenda. A qualified barrister or solicitor, your knowledge and experience will be vital. We’ll be looking to you to ensure robust advice is provided to the council to enable it to meet legal requirements and demonstrate good decision making.

A role that’s out of the ordinary requires an exceptional individual. You must be a credible legal professional who inspires confidence. Comfortable working at senior levels of local government, you’ll give strong, clear guidance – and know when to seek outside legal advice. An in-depth understanding of legal specialism is essential combined with resilience, experience, and a strong track record, you’ll be ready for a role that offers a fresh and rewarding challenge.

The council signs up to the Disability Confident scheme (formerly known as the ‘Two Ticks’ scheme). If you have declared a disability on the application form we can guarantee you an interview if you meet the essential criteria for the job.
