Basingstoke and Deane, a large borough council with the 6th largest local authority property portfolio in the country, has an ambitious range of development projects, backed by solid resources. We are looking to expand our legal team to provide support across the council.
https://www.basingstoke.gov.uk/hr-informationWe are looking for team players with ambition and drive who are keen to make a difference to the delivery of the borough’s services and regeneration.

As a Principal Solicitor specialising in property law, you’ll enjoy scope and variety that’s unusual in our sector being part of our team helping to influence and drive forward the council’s ambitious agenda. As a qualified barrister or solicitor, you must be a credible legal professional who inspires confidence as your knowledge and experience will be vital in delivering high quality legal advice in this performance-focused role.

Comfortable working at senior levels of local government, you’ll give strong, clear guidance – and know when to seek outside legal advice. We’ll be looking to you to ensure robust advice is provided to the council to enable it to meet legal requirements and demonstrate good decision making. If you have an in-depth understanding of legal specialism combined with resilience, experience, and a proven track record, you’ll be ready for this role and the fresh and rewarding challenges it brings.

We offer an excellent range of benefits including discounts at over 900 retailers, free parking, salary sacrifice scheme for lease cars, healthcare cash plan, childcare vouchers, pension scheme, generous leave entitlement and more.

The council signs up to the Disability Confident scheme (formerly known as the ‘Two Ticks’ scheme). If you have declared a disability on the application form we can guarantee you an interview if you meet the essential criteria for the job.

Please note this is a Politically Restricted Post. For further information, please visit the staff handbook within the working with us section on Basingstoke and Deane website.

Please note, we do not accept CVs. Please complete the application form to apply for the role.
